Even as a blizzard descended on South Chicago this past month, SkyART was warm with creative energy when 70 students showed up for the SkyWAY after-school program on Friday, January 17. Every studio was abuzz: the sound of sewing machines filled the gallery space, the tech studio was glowing with iPad art, and sawdust covered the floor in the main studio where kids busily learned woodworking. Others practiced acting, writing and drawing. A few had to be turned away, as we tipped over capacity.
Friday’s crowd of 70 young artists represents the all-time record attendance for a SkyART after-school program, double our average daily attendance. Our goal in 2020, with your help, is to bring that average up to 50 kids every day.
This is why we do this work, because there are still kids in our community who don’t have access to quality art programs. This is why we need your help to grow (we’re going West!), to enrich more children’s lives with creativity, experimentation and free choice.
