SkyART is excited to be exhibiting recent student work at the Loyola University Museum of Art (LUMA) in the Jean Morman Unsworth Art Expressways Gallery.
“i am because you are” is a selection of recent projects by SkyART students. The title, translated from the word “Ubuntu”, refers to an ancient African philosophy meaning that humans cannot exist as separate from each other, but depend on community and connection to achieve personal and collective goals. Taking inspiration from artists Della Wells and Tonika Lewis Johnson, the pieces exhibited explore issues of identity, community, and personal history using mixed media collage and photography. Also on view is a collaborative painting made during SkyART’s inaugural Fall 2017 session of “SkyWAY Studio” – an interdisciplinary program that emphasizes community, collaboration, and caring.
Exhibition is on view February 6 – June 2, 2018.
Opening reception is Friday, February 9th, 5:30-7:30.
Admission to the museum is free.
LUMA is located at:
820 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60660
